Het EK Artistieke Gymnastiek 2017 werd onlangs toegewezen aan de Roemeense hoofdstad Boekarest. Niemand minder dan turnlegende Nadia Comaneci was er bij als de organisatie het event bekendmaakte aan de pers. Nadia, die in de USA woont, reisde hiervoor graag naar haar thuisland af om de kandidatuur te ondersteunen.
Comaneci: "I was very excited to learn that the 2017 European Championships will be held in Bucharest, where the first Europeans were held in 1957. To be able to host these very important championships while celebrating the 60th Anniversary will be wonderful for all Romanians. Personally, it will also be the 40th Anniversary of my second win in the European Championships All Around in Prague. I pledge to do all that I can to make these 2017 Europeans the best ever!"
Voor wie het nog niet weet... Nadia Comaneci turnde als 14-jarige de perfecte '10.00' op de Olympische Spelen van 1976 in Montreal en werd hierdoor een icoon voor de (gym)wereld.
